Make your own hummingbird food

The hummingbird sugary mix we buy at the store is loaded in red dye and not healthy for hummingbirds. You can make a very inexpensive hummingbird nectar at home in no time at all.

Here's what you need to make your own hummingbird nectar.

  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Pan
  • Stove

Mix one part sugar to four parts boiling water and stir. Let cool,  pour into your hummingbird feeder. Store leftovers in a clean jar in the fridge up to one week. Be sure to clean out feeder every three to four days to prevent mold and deadly bacteria from growing.
